Mr. Moss Ngoasheng is the CEO of Safika Holdings and one of South Africa’s most distinguished business figures. Currently serving on the board of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund as Interim deputy chairperson, Moss holds various prominent positions in addition to his role at Safika.


In the corporate landscape, Mr Ngoasheng serves as the Chairman of the board of SABSA, the parent company of South African Breweries. He also holds the position of independent, non-executive chair of JSE-listed Investec Property Fund. Mr Ngoasheng has further engaged as a member of the board of Wingate Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd. and Business Leadership South Africa.


Mr Ngoasheng’s involvement in shaping South Africa’s economic landscape extends back to the advent of democracy in the country. From 1995 to 2000, he served as an economic advisor in the Presidency. He also contributed to the ANC’s economic policy unit for several years.


Beyond his corporate and political roles, Mr Ngoasheng has made significant contributions to academia and policy. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank and the National Housing Forum in South Africa, providing expertise on various aspects of economic policy.

His academic journey includes lecturing on sociology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and working as an assistant research fellow at the university’s Departments of Sociology and Town and Regional Planning. He also held a visiting assistant director role in the Department of Economic History at the University of Cape Town.


Mr Ngoasheng’s early involvement in the fight against apartheid is notable. He joined the African National Congress’ (ANC’s) underground units, leading to his imprisonment in 1978.


Serving seven years on Robben Island as a political prisoner alongside Nelson Mandela, Mr Ngoasheng completed a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Politics during his incarceration.


After his release in 1985, Mr Ngoasheng became a founder member of the United Democratic Front in Limpopo.


In 1987, he graduated with a first-class Honours degree in Industrial Sociology from the University of Natal (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal). Subsequently, he pursued further studies at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, earning a Master’s degree in Development Studies (First Class).
